A man has been convicted at the Old Bailey of killing a man in Enfield.
Sean Gomez, 48, (28.09.67) of Addison Road, Enfield was found guilty on Wednesday, 27 July, of the manslaughter of 47-year-old Mustafa Lanleyin.
He will be sentenced on Friday, 29 July.
Mustafa Lanleyin of Cherry Road, Enfield was described as a ‘street drinker’ who was unemployed at the time of his death. He was single, with a step-daughter and a son, neither of whom lived with him.
On 29 September 2015, Mr Lanleyin had gone out with two friends. As they were walking in Cherry Road, he became involved in a verbal altercation with Gomez. This was sparked by the victim asking Gomez: “What are you looking at?”
The argument escalated quickly to violence, with Gomez grabbing Mr Lanleyin and repeatedly head-butting and beating him. As Mr Lanleyin fell to the floor, Gomez kicked him in the head.
Before dragging the dying man to a rubbish bin area, Gomez sought to justify the attack to the two men who had been with Mr Lanleyin. All three men then left him.
Around five to ten minutes later – at around 21.10hrs – a woman found the victim lying critically injured. An ambulance was called, but Mr Lanleyin was pronounced dead at 21:41hrs.
A post-mortem examination established cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head.
Officers from the Homicide and Major Crime Command launched an investigation, and Gomez was arrested on 30 September 2015. He was charged the following day.
