Man jailed for causing death by dangerous driving

A man has been jailed for causing death by dangerous driving in Enfield after leaving his friend for dead following a collision with a lorry.

Saulius Kipraitis, 32 (9/3/82) was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday, 23 May, to four and a half years’ imprisonment. He pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing.

Shortly before 04:00hrs on 9 June 2013, Kipraitis had been driving his car at speed with his friend, Elvadas Kacerauskas, 30, as a passenger. Both had been at a party that night.

Lithuanian national Kipraitis lost control of the vehicle on a roundabout in Mollision Avenue, Enfield and collided with an oncoming lorry. Kipraitis then drove the damaged vehicle, a Mazda 6, some two miles further before stopping, making off on foot and leaving the critically injured Elvadas in the car. He did not call emergency service nor obtain any help for his friend.

Police and London Ambulance Service were called to the original collision with the lorry and, subsequently, to the damaged Mazda. Elvadas Kacerauskas was taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries the following day. He was also a Lithuanian national.

Officers from the Collision Investigation Unit at Chadwell Heath investigated. Later on 9 June, Kipraitis was arrested, charged and convicted as above
