Man sentenced to five years prison after he wounded man with scissors at Finsbury Park, London, station

A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in jail after he was found guilty on charges of GBH following an incident at Finsbury Park Tube station where he wounded a man with a pair of scissors.

adiyemeAdeyemi Adekeye, of no fixed abode, was at Finsbury Park Tube station on Tuesday, 11 August at about 1.30pm.

Adekeye’s victim made his way to the Victoria line platform. Whilst waiting for the train he was attacked from behind.

The victim at first thought he was being punched, he managed to board a train to get away from Adekeye. Once on the train the victim realised that he had been wounded and was bleeding.

Adekeye then boarded a Heathrow Airport bound Piccadilly line train where he was later arrested by officers at the airport’s bus station.

Investigating officer DC Steve McBride said: “We will do everything in our power to ensure anyone committing crime on the rail network is dealt with appropriately.

“This was a random attack on a man who was going about his day. Everyone has the right to travel on the rail network without fear or intimidation.

“I hope that the sentence handed to Adekeye will allow him to reflect on his actions on that day.”

Steve Burton, TfL’s Director of Enforcement and On-Street Operations, said: “This was a callous, unprovoked attack on a passenger using our service. Thanks to the victims report and the immediate investigation carried out by the British Transport Police this offender was arrested and subsequently jailed.

“We are committed to ensuring our customers travel freely across our network in confidence and will continue to work with our police partners to crackdown on any incidents of crime, pushing for the toughest penalties for those caught.”

Adekeye was found guilty by a jury on Thursday, 28 January at Blackfriars Crown Court. He was sentenced on Friday, 4 March.
