Marcos Baghdatis will take on local player Gilles Simon in the opening round of his final tournament of the season: the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris.
If the Cypriot manages to overcome the 27-year-old Simon, against whom he holds a 2-1 lead in their overall head-to-head series, he would then face top-seeded Roger Federer who has received a bye into the second round.
Baghdatis returns to the event for the first time since 2008, when he was eliminated in the first round by American Sam Querrey. However, a year earlier he reached the semifinals where he lost to Rafael Nadal in three sets.
