Mayor Boris Johnson’s father Stanley says ‘Lord Adonis should resign ‘Baron of Camden Town’

The Mayor of London’s father has called for the Baron of Camden to make a public apology for HS2 and resign his “ludicrous” title, writes Tom Foot.

Stanley Johnson said Lord Andrew Adonis – the political architect of the HS2 railway project – should find a different area to represent in the House of Lords.

The former Conservative MEP, whose Camden home is affected by the route, is speaking at a major public meeting next week chaired by newscaster Jon Snow.

He said: “It seems to me to be quite ludicrous – indeed an insult to the people of Camden – that Andrew Adonis should now enjoy the grand title of Lord Adonis of Camden. You might as well call ‘Bomber’ Harris ‘Harris of Berlin’.”

“Perhaps Lord Adonis should think about making a public apology to the people of Camden for the misery and stress he has already caused; resigning from the Lords, or asking permission from the Garter King of Arms, or whoever it is who deals with such matters, to choose another title, in the Outer Hebrides perhaps, or anyway somewhere quite out of the HS2’s destructive reach.”

Lord Adonis was created a life peer Baron of Camden in May 2005, meaning he could be appointed as a government minister without being elected.
