A Ryanair flight on route from Thessaloniki to Paphos was forced to make an emergency landing in Athens on Monday night following a disturbance involving one of the passengers.
According to witnesses, one of the passengers, who had been acting strangely, got out of his seat and walked towards the cockpit where he proceeded to bang on the door, ordering the pilots to open up for him because he is “a mechanic”.
The pilots, in turn, alerted the Greek authorities and a decision was taken to make an emergency landing in Athens after it was deemed that the passenger could endanger the lives of others.
The remaining passengers spent Monday night in an Athens hotel and were set to continue their path to Paphos Airport this morning.
The passenger who had created the disturbance is currently in police custody in Athens.
