Missing brothers may have been taken to Cyprus by their mother

Sussex Police has released a statement following ‘grave concerns’ about two missing boys.

As reported, social services officials think Charlie Clift, five, pictured, and Kaiton Warnes, two, are in the Turkish occupied part of Cyprus with their mother Amelia Warnes, 23, from Eastbourne.

Charlie’s father – carpenter Dominic Burt, 25, of St Leonards – has appealed for the public’s help in tracing his son.

In the statement, Sussex Police say a couple from St Leonards, were convicted earlier this year of conspiracy to abduct a four-year-old boy.

A spokesman said: “John Clift, 45, unemployed, and his wife Lita Clift, 49, a nursing auxiliary, both then of Bunting Close, St Leonards, were sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on Friday, April 24, for conspiring to abduct a then four-year old boy known to them, having been convicted the previous month after a trial.

“The offence consisted of their involvement in enabling the boy to be removed from the country without the consent of his natural father in January, 2014.

“John Clift was sentenced to nine months imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, and Lita Clift was sentenced to six months imprisonment, suspended for 18 months

“The boy is known to be abroad with another young son and their parents, and police enquiries are continuing
