MP Lefteris Christoforou declared Cyprus’ new MEP

Democratic Rally Parliamentarian Lefteris Christoforou was on Monday declared as Member of the European Parliament at a ceremony which took place at the Interior Ministry.

Christoforou is succeeding MEP Christos Stylianides (former Government Spokesman) who took over as Cyprus EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management. Christoforou`s seat at the Cyprus Parliament goes to Evgenios Chamboullas.

Speaking during the ceremony in the presence, inter alia, of Interior Minister Socratis Chasikos, Democratic Rally President Averof Neofytou and Acting Head of the EP Cyprus Office Alexandra Attalides and his family, Christoforou said that he will carry on his struggle to safeguard the rights of the Cyprus people, especially now that our country is faced with a social-economic crisis.

He stressed that all of us ought to do our utmost so that our country comes out of the economic crisis, expressing his conviction that we will manage to do so.

In his statements Christoforou thanked his party, the Democratic Rally and its President Averof Neofytou, and all those who supported him throughout the years as well as his family.

Cyprus joined the EU in 2004 and it elects six MEPs.
