On Saturday 25 October 2025, the Chief of the Hellenic Police, Lieutenant General Dimitrios Mallios, welcomed Greek & Cypriot Policing leaders from the United Kingdom, Australia and United States of America to the Hellenic Police Headquarters.
The historic moment was part of an international gathering of Greek & Cypriot policing associations, co-ordinated by Lieutenant Colonel George Tzatzakis, President of Hellenic Police Athletic, European Police Sport associations & Vice President of the International Police Sport Association and Lieutenant Colonel Dimitrios Avanidis, Vice President of the Hellenic Police Athletic Association.
The occasion brought together Chief Inspector George Palmas – Secretary of the Metropolitan Police Service Greek & Cypriot Association, Acting Superintendent Andrew Markakis APM – President of the Hellenic Police Association of Victoria, Australia, Sergent Con Matsamakis – Hellenic Police Association of Victoria, Australia and Lieutenant/Commanding Officer John Pappas (Retired) – St. Paul’s Society of the New York Police Department USA.
In what is believed to be the first time in history, Greek & Cypriot representatives from these three nations were able to meet at the Hellenic Headquarters and discuss the continued contribution Greek & Cypriot officers and staff have on policing worldwide. The representatives were able to establish common grounds and strengthen global ties between their police forces.
Chief Inspector George Palmas of the MPS Greek & Cypriot Association said, “It was wonderful to be part of this historic event. The opportunity to meet other Greek and Cypriot police leaders from around the world and discuss how we police and support our communities was special. We look forward to further strengthening our working relationships with our international colleagues.”
