Six men have been arrested as part of an investigation into a series of high-end vehicle thefts across Hertfordshire and the surrounding counties.

The arrests were made after officers carried out a warrant in East Herts during the early hours of today (Friday 7 May).

The operation was the culmination of a long-running investigation by the constabulary’s Tactical Resources team, supported by colleagues from the Serious and Organised Crime Command.

All six men were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to steal motor vehicles and theft from motor vehicles. They remain in police custody at this time and further enquiries are continuing.

Investigators have so far linked 40 offences to the theft series across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Essex – 30 of those were committed in Herts.

Three ‘chop shops’ have also been identified, where stolen vehicles are dismantled so that the parts can be sold or used to repair other stolen vehicles.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Clawson, who leads the Tactical Resources team, said: “This has been a proactive, long-running investigation which has involved a lot of hard work behind the scenes and I’m pleased that we have now secured these arrests.”
