Reception children are being welcomed through the doors of three new primary schools across the borough this week.
Wren Academy and London Academy have built a new primary school provision on each of their sites, creating ‘all through’ schools to teach pupils from the age of 4 to 18.
Watling Park School will also open on Thursday, September 10, with up to 60 pupils starting in Reception. The school will be initially based at the old Orion School site in Colindale, before moving on to temporary classrooms on their new site on Pavilion Way.
Both Wren Academy and London Academy will offer places to primary education for 60 reception-aged children.
Further brand new facilities are still under construction on both the school’s sites, which are being funded jointly by the council and by central Government.
When at full capacity the new provisions will each provide an additional 420 primary school places to help the council meet the growing pressure for school places in the borough.
.
These new developments have contributed to the 210 new permanent reception places provided for this new school year.
Between 2011/12 and 2014/15 the council has spent more than £88 million on expanding or rebuilding primary and secondary schools throughout the borough, and we are proposing to spend a further £119million by the end of the decade.
Councillor Reuben Thompstone, Chairman of the Children Education Libraries and Safeguarding Committee, said: “I am thrilled to be welcoming these three new primaries into Barnet’s schools family.
“We are continue to work tirelessly to create additional new school places where they are needed across the borough, and will continue to do so as our population grows.”
