Greek-Australian Nick Kyrgios has advanced to the Miami Open semi-finals with a straight sets victory over 12th seed Milos Raonic in the last eight.
Kyrgios – who defeated Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis 6-2 6-1 earlier in the tournament – is also set to crack the world’s top 20 and leapfrog Bernard Tomic to become Australian tennis’s new number one following his impressive 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) defeat of the power-serving Canadian.
The straight-sets victory vaulted Kyrgios into a last-four meeting with Japanese sixth seed Kei Nishikori and tantalisingly close to a potential title showdown with world number one Novak Djokovic.
Kyrgios, at 20, will become the youngest player in the world top 20 since 2009 when the rankings are released on Monday.
