A MAN was arrested yesterday for the attempted murder of his flatmate who was attacked with a screwdriver before being set alight in their Strovolos flat.
The 28-year-old man is suspected of getting into an argument with his 38-year-old flatmate, which ended with him using a screwdriver to attack his flatmate, pouring flammable liquid over the older man and setting him alight.
Neighbours called emergency services who arrived at the scene, arresting the 28-year-old and rushing his flatmate to hospital.
The 38-year-old suffered serious burns on the face and other parts of the body. He was kept in the intensive care unit for treatment.
Citing police sources, the state broadcaster reported last night that the 28-year-old confessed that he was responsible for his flatmate’s injuries to police. The alleged assailant will be taken before Nicosia district court today for remand.
Both men are from Romania.
