Norwegian plane in mysterious Cyprus-Syria flights

A Norwegian military aircraft is currently based in Paphos and is conducting regular flights between the shores of Cyprus and Syria, according to media reports in Phileleftheros on Friday.

The aircraft in question is said to be the ‘Mystere 20ECM’ – one of the two Dassault DA-20 Falcon jets belonging to the Royal Norwegian Air Force (RNoAF).

The same reports claim that in the last 48 hours, the plane has flying regularly to the east of the island – in the waters between Syria and Cyprus and which have been designated of late to the Russian military for drill exercises.

The aircraft has been flying around the area but also refueling at Larnaca Airport before returning to it base at the Andreas Papandreou Air Base in Paphos.

The Norwegian Consulate General in Cyprus, Panayiotis Antoniades, told the Cyprus Weekly that he was “unaware” of any Norwegian military aircraft on the island adding that it is not protocol for the Norwegian Defence Ministry to alert him of any matters concerning Cyprus.
