occupied cyprus will try to register sheftali kebab and verigo grapes

The regime will try to geographically register sheftali kebab, verigo grapes and other cultural products of Cyprus
Under the title “Priority to hellim” [Translator’s note: the halloumi cheese], Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris newspaper (28.11.12) reports that Ali Cirali, chairman of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Industry, has pointed to the importance of geographical registration of cultural products and said that they will get into action in order to register sheftali kebab, verigo variety of grapes and other cultural products of Cyprus.

Yesterday, Cirali headed a delegation of the “Halloumi Auditing Board”, which visited the self-styled minister of agriculture and natural resources of the breakaway regime, Ali Cetin Amcaoglu. He said that the board, which has been established within the efforts of the standard production and registration of halloumi cheese, will start working in 2013. He noted that for the first time they will organize a logo competition for halloumi.

Recalling that the EU has accepted the name of “hellim” as a result of their objection to the allegedly “unilateral” effort of the Republic of Cyprus to register halloumi, Cirali said they were annoyed by the efforts of “south Cyprus”, as he described the government of the Republic of Cyprus, to take the production of halloumi in the occupied area of Cyprus under its control and alleged that according to Protocol 10 [of the Republic of Cyprus’ Accession Treaty into the EU], the government of the Republic of Cyprus has no authority in the occupied northern part of the island. He argued that the “Auditing Board” controls the production of halloumi in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus.

Cirali asked from the “ministry” to exert the necessary efforts so that the proportions of goat and sheep milk in the production of halloumi to be increased.
