a street art/graffiti photobook by Emilio Demetriou-Jones
A Cyprus-focused photography book by Emilio Demetriou-Jones is to be released at the beginning of December.
Titled ‘Offbeat Cyprus: If Walls Could Talk’, it’s a 48-page limited-edition photography publication showcasing Cypriot graffiti and street art, complete with translations from Greek/Turkish to English and context/explanations.
Emilio began taking photographs of graffiti and street art in Cyprus for his own pleasure, after realising that the majority of what he saw was very emotive, thought-provoking and hard-hitting. The recurring themes were (other than general humour and dark philosophy) anti-fascism, anti-racism, LGBT rights, Euroskepticism, gender equality and many more.
“I soon realised that I had a very strong collection and thus posted some online, which received a very positive response, prompting me to physically document them in book form,” said Emilio, adding, “The aim of the publication, and those that will hopefully follow, is to bring these messages to wider audiences to provide glimpses into the psyches and mentalities of different countries (in this case, Cyprus). I do this with the hope of inspiring, provoking interest and sparking investigation. And of course, to generally create beautiful, unique and rare books that will be treasured by the reader.”
‘Offbeat Cyprus: If Walls Could Talk’ is priced £15 and can be purchased from www.offbeatbookseries.bigcartel.com
