PAPHOS police have arrested four teenage boys in connection with two attempted robberies – one at a kiosk and another at the premises of a tour operator – that took place on Thursday.
The would-be robbers had been chased away in both cases.
A court remanded the suspects – three 15-year-olds and a 14-year-old – in custody for 24 hours yesterday pending the investigation.
Police said early Thursday morning, one of the suspects allegedly tried to rob a kiosk at gunpoint.
But he, along with two other individuals waiting for him at the entrance, were chased away by the 32-year-old owner.
While leaving the scene, one youth fell to the ground leaving behind a backpack and a pair of sunglasses, police said.
Police said the four are also suspected of being involved in an attempt to rob a tour operator later that day.
A youth went in demanding money and put his hand under his coat where he held what the female owner assumed was a gun.
The woman, 44, said she saw a black object, which she took for a pistol grip.
She rose from her desk telling the thug she would give him the money, but as she drew near she pushed him out the door.
The teen then fled the area on foot.
