Whether you choose to wear a little day make-up or full on glamour, lashes complete the look. During summer time, when many seem to have that healthy, sunkissed glow, and barely even need much make-up, a little concealer, eyeliner, mascara and some lip balm is often all you need to make a difference and look amazing.
Make those lashes stand out without even wearing mascara… watch a weepy movie, go swimming, look glam while working out and even wake up in the morning and not see streaming mascara run down your cheeks!
How is that possible I hear some say? It is simply by taking advantage of all the treatments that are available now; from eyelash perming/lifting to semi-permanent eyelash extensions, there are so many treatments available that you can combine to get your desired look.
Eyelash perming was the original beauty treatment done with special solutions used to break down the structure of the eyelashes and repair them to a new curled shape. Traditionally, it was achieved with little perming rods that were placed on the eyelids; they were like mini compressed cotton hair rollers. The solutions comprised of a perming solution, and then followed by a neutralising fixing lotion specifically designed to be safe around the delicate eye area. The eyelash lift is very similar in method but instead of the compressed roller, it uses a silicone type form mould that is placed on the eyelid area. The difference is probably the degree of the curvature within the lash being able to go over. With a rod, the curl can go quite a way around and over the roller, while the lift mould is shaped differently. The solutions used work in the same manner, having to break down the structure of lash hair and then repair to its new moulded shape requirement.
This procedure should always be done by a qualified beauty therapist since it involves chemicals. A sensitivity test should be done in advance to ensure there are no allergic reactions.
Next is eyelash tinting, which can follow after a lash perming or lifting procedure. It adds more colour definition to eyelashes, even to dark lashes where the eyelash tips are finer and not so defined. Colours can be black, brown or a striking blue black. These are even available as home kits that can be purchased at Superdrug, Boots stores and even at some supermarkets. However, I always suggest getting it done professionally as it contains chemicals, and it is always safer to do so after a sensitivity test.
After having those two procedures, applying a growth serum like Rapid Lash or Revitalise will keep those lashes growing beautifully long and silky. This can be done close to the lash line and is applied with a wand stick included in its purchased container. Although there are many other products, the results of the above are claimed to be very effective.
If you don’t like the idea of those treatments, there are many other options like temporary eyelash applications. The stick on strip lashes with adhesive are well known and last for your evening out or great for a photo shoot. Now there are even temporary magnetic lashes where the top and underside stick to your natural lash strip line. No glue needed!
If you want something that lasts a little longer, why not apply individual lashes. Some are as a stem of a few, and others are single lashes. These can again be bought at stores and applied at home or done professionally using the correct application technique. They can last a couple of weeks or so depending on natural lash growth. There needs to be some natural lashes for the artificial ones to be applied on to.
If you are a person that constantly fiddles and will pull at lashes, I personally don’t advise these as you will pull your own out with the artificial ones applied.
Finally, there are single lashes that are applied as above, but done only by professionals as the adhesive is a lot stronger and uses a specialist technique. Lashes can last approximately seven weeks or so, depending of course on natural lash growth.
Get fluttering those lashes!
