Pervert jailed for filming up women’s skirts on escalators

A pervert has been jailed for filming up women’s skirts as they travelled up escalators at a Tube station.

He followed his victims up escalators at Stratford station and took video footage from behind them using his smartphone.

When he approached one woman as she travelled towards Westfield Shopping Centre, she noticed him filming as he grazed her thigh.

The Hackney man has been jailed for three months after he was caught filming up women’s skirts at Stratford London Underground station.
Zeynel Uclay, 46, of Morning Lane, Hackney, was sentenced at Thames Crown Court on Wednesday, 8 July, after being found guilty of two counts of outraging public decency.
At an earlier hearing, the jury was told Uclay carried out his offences on the station escalators.
He followed his first victim up the escalator as she made her way to Westfield shopping centre from the Central line shortly before 7.30pm on Friday, 13 June, 2014.
The court heard the woman felt something touching her thigh, and turned to see Uclay standing directly behind her
When she confronted him, he walked past her and she noticed he was holding a phone with the video function enabled.
The court heard Uclay was arrested after another incident at Stratford station on Monday, 11 August 2014.
A woman making her way to Westfield noticed a man watching two teenage girls.
She watched as the man gestured for them to walk ahead of him on the escalator, before he bent down to position his phone under one of the girls’ skirts.
The court was told the woman alerted two British Transport Police PCSOs who detained Uclay before colleagues arrived to arrest him.
After being found guilty Uclay was sentenced to three months for each offence, to be served concurrently.
He was also ordered to pay £620 costs, an £80 victim surcharge and was given a criminal behaviour order forbidding him from carrying any device capable of capturing images or film in public for two years.
Speaking after sentencing, Detective Constable Gareth Jones said: “Unwanted sexual behaviour will not be tolerated anywhere on the rail network.
“We are working hard with our partners at TfL on our ‘Report it to Stop it’ campaign which encourages people to report incidents such as this via our 61016 text number.
“We take every report seriously, and will pursue offenders to ensure they are brought before the courts.
“I am pleased to see that Uclay has been brought to account for his actions.”
Siwan Hayward, TfL’s Deputy Director of Enforcement and On-Street Operations, said: “The courageous act of reporting these incidents to the police has helped our BTP partners bring this man to justice. We take all reports of unwanted sexual behaviour extremely seriously and do all we can to prevent these kind of incidents happening to others.”
“Our customers have the right to travel in safety and anyone who is made to feel uncomfortable while travelling on our network should report it to the police by calling 101 or texting 61016.”
