Peter Andre supports slimmers group in Potters Bar

Slimmers have raised more than £5,000 by donating their old “before” clothes.

Members of Slimming World, Potters Bar have taken part in The Big Slimming World Clothes Throw to raise funds for Cancer Research UK by donating bags of their old clothes.

The group collected 219 bags of clothes, shoes and accessories they have “slimmed” out of and donated them as part of the campaign, with each being worth around £25.

Yasmin Alobaidi, a member who has lost 5st 8.5lbs since 2015 and dropped from a size 18 to a size 10-12, said: “It felt amazing to donate all of my old clothes – liberating in fact!Bagging them up and saying goodbye was like a celebration of just how far I’ve come. I’ve lost nearly 6 stone and not only do I feel like a new person, now I dress like one to and love going into a shop and choosing whatever I like.”

The campaign seeks to increase awareness in how being at a healthy weight can help reduce the risk of developing some types of cancer.

She added: “I always hated shopping before and just wanted to cover up and hide away. Not any more though!”

The campaign has been supported by TV personality Peter Andre.

The group meet at various venues in Potters Bar on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
