The EU has not received yet an invitation to the 5+1 Cyprus issue talks in Geneva by the UN, but sends a delegation of diplomats anyway, to assist the process if needed, Peter Stano, an EEAS and European Commission spokesperson told CNA today, during the EC midday briefing.
Invited by CNA to comment on the EU presence at the upcoming 5+1 talks in Geneva, Peter Stano said that “there is no update, we still haven`t received an invitation from the UN, who is the one to send the invitations, nevertheless we have sent a team of experienced senior diplomats to be on the spot and to help the UN in their current efforts in any way they can.”
Further called to announce the names and function of the team members, the spokesperson declined saying that “no, it`s the team that we have sent that is composed of senior diplomats who are experienced, who are very professional and are on the spot in order to assist and help the UN in any way they can.”
