The generation of today as well as previous generations created many problems to the environment and young people have to use every means and tool they can get if they want to have any chance of solving these problems, Pierre-Yves Cousteau, oceanographer, President of Cousteau Divers and son of great researcher who studied the sea and all forms of life in water Jacques-Yves Cousteau has said.
Cousteau, who was speaking during an event organized as part of the International Sea Festival Nautilus by the Evagoras & Kathleen Lanitis Foundation, in collaboration with the Oceanographic Center of the University of Cyprus and the ‘Rencontres de la Terre’, to pay tribute to Jacques-Yves Cousteau, noted that with his work his father inspired millions of people throughout the world.
“He was my father and in a sense, a spiritual father to millions of people thought the world. He was a navy captain, a philosopher, an artist, an explorer, a scientist, a movie director, a musician, a visionary, a missionary,” he noted.
Cousteau noted that “we created so many problems – my generation, the generation before me and the generations before – for the environment”, that young people will have to face tomorrow.
Addressing the students who attended the event, he said that “you will need all the tools you can get, you will need all the education you can get about the environment if you want to have any chance of fixing these problems.”
On his part, Limassol Mayor Andreas Christou welcomed Cousteau and expressed his satisfaction about the event.
