Police arrest five Polish fans from Omonia game

Police on Thursday arrested five Polish football fans for causing trouble before their teams’ Europa league qualifier in Nicosia.

The trouble started before kick off when Jagiellonia Bialystok fans, in Cyprus for the second leg of their team’s games against home side Omonia, assaulted GSP stadium’s stewards.

Police said the incident happened at 5.30pm – 90 minutes before kick off when Jagiellonia fans were making their entry into the stadium.

Riot police intervened, restoring order and arresting five Polish fans.

They were taken to the police station in Nicosia and charged with assault. The fans were released at 10pm and escorted back to the stadium where they rejoined other Polish team supporters to return home..
