Police presence will be reinforced in cities, as well as in the mountaineous areas, with the aim of preventing traffic accidents during the holiday season.
“Checks will be carried out throughout the road network, on main roads, on commercial streets and in areas where there is mass public presence” Communications Police Officer Eleni Constantinou, told CNA.
She said that the Police forces will carry out checks for traffic violations, speed limits, for the use of seat belts and protective helmets and for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, which are the main causes of fatal traffic accidents.
She also said that given that the number of vehicles heading towards the Troodos mountains will be increased, following the latest snowfalls, the Police calls on the public to regularly follow announcements regarding the road network in the mountainous areas, as the weather conditions change frequently.
She added that there will also be a constant Police presence in the mountainous areas to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles on the roads and called on the public to comply with the instructions of the police officers on duty.
Moreover, patrols will be carried out in busy and commercial areas until January 6, 2025.
