President Demetris Christofias has sent a letter of congratulations to Franscois Hollande for his victory in Sunday’s presidential elections in France.
“I am particularly happy to extend to you, the day after your election to the presidency of the Republic of France, my most sincere and warm congratulations, wishing you every success in the fulfillment of your high-level duties,” Christofias said in his letter.
“You are assuming the presidency of France, an important country in the European family, at a period during which both our countries face major challenges,“ he added.
President Chistofias expressed certainty that, “led by the humanitarian values which constitute our common heritage, France, under your leadership, will work tirelessly so that European citizens will regain hope, which is so important today, for progress and for a better Europe.”
He also noted that “ties between Cyprus and France are excellent and most valued.”
Deep appreciation between the Cypriot and the French people and close cooperation between the two countries, he added, are a valuable achievement.
He said he would ensure that this heritage is maintained and becomes more productive.
“A few months after the assumption of your duties, Cyprus will assume the EU Presidency and I look forward with great joy to working closely and constructively with you,” he concluded.
