President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades to undergo surgery in New York on December 4

President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades departs on November 29 to the United States for a heart operation, an official statement issued by Government Spokesman Nicos Christodoulides on Tuesday morning says.

President Anastasiades on Thursday, December 4, is set to undergo mitral valve repair surgery.

“The President’s departure to a medical center abroad was deemed necessary because of the center’s specialisation in such surgical procedures,” Christodoulides explains.

The President is expected to return to Cyprus before the Christmas holidays.

Earlier this month, it was announced that during a routine check-up it was discovered that President Anastasiades is suffering from a problem with the mitral valve and he would need surgery.
