A team of young Cypriots who live abroad are visiting Cyprus in the context of the annual NEPOMAK “Discover Cyprus Program” and were received by Presidential Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and those for Overseas Cypriots, Photis Photiou on Friday.
Welcoming his young guests at the Presidential Palace Photiou said “this program is an excellent opportunity for young Cypriots from all over the world to visit their homeland Cyprus and improve their knowledge about our language, culture and heritage, as well as create lifelong friendships with other young Cypriot compatriots.”
He added that from his appointment he has always had “a great interest in matters related to overseas Cypriot youth.”
And this, he assured them, “is not by accident, since I believe you are the future and the guarantee for the continuation of our diaspora communities around the world.”
Through his close cooperation with President of NEPOMAK Antonia Savvides, the Youth Board of Cyprus, the University of Cyprus, the Service of Overseas and Repatriated Cypriots of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other Governmental and Non Governmental Organizations, he said, they have created fresh opportunities for young overseas Cypriots in Cyprus, such as internship opportunities, long distance courses for the culture, history and Greek language with the Open University, the NEPOMAK Young Community Leaders (NYCL) Program, including a study trip to Cyprus in June 2017 and an another NCDP programme for young people of older age in cooperation with the Cyprus Youth Board.
Photiou also said that in the next World Conference for Overseas Cypriots a special session devoted to youth integration in local diaspora organisations will be held
