Omonia retained their position at the top of the table after beating second from bottom team Anayennisis 2-0 with two goals from their Angolese striker Freddy both from penalties in the 63rd minute and the other in added time, Freddy’s this season tally of goals now total 13 . The weekend’s results all went Omonia’s way with AEL, Apoel and Anorthosis all dropping points. Omonia are top with 43 points AEL second with 41, Apoel 40 and Anorthosis with 38 points
APOEL Nicosia and AEL Limassol drew 0-0 in a mediocre game on Sunday at the Tsirion Stadium after a fierce battle. Champions league team Apoel had suffered two consecutive 1-0 defeats to the Limassol side this season so were very nervous and could not afford to lose again and it also seemed AEL had the same thoughts both teams played defensively with very few attacks.
“It was a very difficult match against a high-standing team,” said Apoel’s Serbian coach Ivan Jovanovic.
In the other Sunday’s game New Salamis drew with Olympiakos 1-1 Mersio scored in the 35th minute to give Olympiakos the lead. New Salamis equalised in the 77th minute with a goal from Gray. Then in the 82nd minute Roque scored for New Salamis that was disallowed for offside and was hotly disputed by the reds.
