Cypriot sailing athlete Pavlos Kontides will wait until Tuesday to race in the finals of men`s laser in the Rio Olympics as today`s race has been postponed due to lack of wind.
The race is expected to take place on Tuesday at around 20.00 Cyprus time.
According to Cyprus Sports Writers Union correspondent Erodotos Miltiadous, Kontides appears optimistic and calm, saying he is not stressed out at all.
In order to claim the third place, Kontides will have to win the medal race, New Zealand`s Sam Meech will have to end 9th or 10th and three more athletes, standing between the two, will have to finish in the 4th place or lower.
This is the second time in a row Kontides is chasing an Olympic medal, the difference however with the 2012 London Olympics is that, back then, the Cypriot sailor had already secured silver upon entering the medal race. Now, Kontides is in the 7th place and enters with a 15 handicap points difference from the sailor ranking third.
“I will do my best to win the medal race, but it is not only up to me. I will exhaust all possibilities to get a medal” Kontides added.
