Two women who were captured on CCTV emptying their wheelie bins into someone else’s garden have been fined after Haringey Council tracked them down.
Linda Bivolaru, of Carew Road, Tottenham, was shown dumping the contents of two bins into a garden next to the Refuse and Recycling Centre in Park View Road, along with a 17-year-old accomplice.
The CCTV also appeared to show the women – one of who was wearing a dressing gown – being confronted by a passerby.
Haringey Council released the footage in a bid to identify the pair and also carried out door-to-door enquiries.
They managed to track them down and both women admitted dumping the rubbish but claimed they thought it was allowed after seeing other people do the same thing.
At Tottenham Magistrates Court on 8 April Linda Bivolaru, 24, was fined £110, ordered to pay £100 costs and a victim surcharge of £20. The other woman, 17, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was given an absolute discharge, as her age was taken into account. Both women apologised and vowed never to do it again.
Haringey Council Cabinet Member for Environment Cllr Stuart McNamara said:
“Ignorance is no excuse when it comes to dumping rubbish on our streets and all residents receive very clear information that lets them know what to do with their waste.
“We are determined to crack down on the issue of fly-tipping and we need residents to support us by reporting fly-tips and helping us to identify and take action against offenders.”
