Blue badge fraudsters who flouted match day parking restrictions scored an own goal when they were rumbled by Haringey Council.
The council has confiscated seven badges in a series of crackdowns near Tottenham Hotspur’s White Hart Lane stadium.
Blue badges allow drivers to park in normally restricted areas – such as some streets surrounding the stadium when games are on – so that they are close to their destination.
But the badges can only be used by the badge holder and not given or loaned to someone else.
During one enforcement operation, one driver was found using a badge which belonged to a deceased relative and another had already been reported as lost.
Haringey Council Cabinet Member for Environment Cllr Stuart McNamara said:
“Blue badges are there to help those in need and it is unacceptable that they are abused by people who don’t need them, just so that they have a convenient place to park.
“We are determined to crack down on this behaviour at locations where we hear it is happening, and will continue to work to ensure that the behaviour of a selfish few does not impact on our most vulnerable residents.”
Match Day restrictions are in place near White Hart Lane to manage the high volume of traffic which travels through the area. The council had received a number of reports about blue badges being misused in the area.
