According to a report on ‘turkrus’ website, it is expected that an agreement will be signed between the Cyprus Republic and Moscow for a military base.
Anastasiades will be visiting Russia on the 25th of February and in a statement to Cyprus Weekly, said Cyprus could be hosting a Russian air and naval base. Anastasiades said an old agreement with Russia existed and this needed to be updated; he said the services they were giving France and Germany would also be extended to Russia.
The Greek Cypriot and Russian press are claiming that the base could be set up 40 kms away from the British base Akrotiri and the Andreas Papandreou air base.
The website reports that other global press and media were also reporting the speculation and pointed out that the Anastasiades Russia visit was even more important now.
