To build an external fire escape and staircase from the top floor of the school building to the back of the school at ground level. We have 2 classrooms upstairs an only one internal narrow staircase to them. We’ve obtain planning permission and have early quotes between £14,000 – £16,000 to deliver the project.
Our school is a self-funded not for profit school, helping Greek and Cypriot children of the local community learn the Greek language and understand more about their Greek and Cypriot culture and traditions. We were founded in 1971 and our close affiliation with St Demetrios Church means that the children also receive a basic understanding of the Greek Orthodox religion. Our fees are only £240 per child per year, which covers four hours of teaching a week per child. The school caters for all age groups from nursery all the way through to A Levels. We’re a not for profit entity and most year’s we rely on subsidies from our parish church to keep the school going and to undertake essential repairs. Although we strive to keep our fees low to ensure the school is accessible to as many families as possible, where there are low-income families unable to afford enrolment, we waive the fees and educate the children at our own cost rather than turn them away. The school operates over two evenings in the week and over one session at the weekend.
Chairman’s personal message; We’re in very challenging times now where globalisation is making the world a smaller place, and with this comes the natural dilution of identities for all cultures. It is therefore becoming even more important to continue to try and preserve for our children their history and culture. We feel that the values we teach the children at our school help enrich their lives and their contribution to our wider multicultural society in Britain, helping make them conscientious empathetic members of society. However, involvement is not all about educating the children, it’s about creating a safe environment for the children to learn in and this takes a lot of time and effort when funds are not freely available. This is why we need your help. Thank you.
