Shadow Minister for Europe Catherine West has sent the following message to our community on the occasion of St Barnabas Day which is celebrated on 11th June:
As Shadow Minister for Europe, I’d like to wish a very Happy St Barnabas Day to those celebrating in the UK Cypriot community. Unfortunately we cannot hold the annual service at St Barnabas Greek Orthodox Church in my constituency, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I look forward to resuming this wonderful tradition next year and celebrating with the community in person, as I have done in previous years.
As the Patron Saint of Cyprus and the Founder of the Cypriot Orthodox Church, I know that the community holds St Barnabas close to their hearts. Moreover, St Barnabas was also revered as a peacemaker, making his patronage of the island very relevant, as we continue to do our utmost to support a free and reunified Cyprus.
