Six people saved from fire in Enfield

Six people have been rescued by firefighters after a fire broke out in an eleven storey block of flats.

The inferno started on the tenth floor corridor of the Ayley Croft flats in Bush Hill Park, Enfield at approximately 11.27am.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus to save four people from three different flats on the tenth floor. Two more men were rescued from the corridor where the blaze started.

James Ryan from Tottenham Fire Station who was one of the first firefighters into the building said: “When we got up to the tenth floor where the fire was, the corridor was extremely heavily smoke logged.

“Purpose-built flats are designed to withstand fire for a certain amount of time so those people who remained inside their flats did the right thing in staying put until crews reached them. The fire was in the corridor, so if they had opened their doors they would have been exposing themselves to the fire, smoke, and fumes directly outside and could have been badly hurt.”
