Six rescued from Wood Green blaze

Six people were rescued from a fire at a shop with flats above it on High Road in Wood Green Sunday night.

When firefighters arrived a cab driver from a nearby taxi office was helping to assist people from the top floors of the building by using a ladder. Five adults and two children managed to reach a neighbour’s first floor roof. Two children were brought to ground level via the adjoining property. The two children were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

Two women and two men were rescued by fire crews wearing breathing apparatus via a ladder. All but one of the men were suffering from smoke inhalation and taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

A further man and a woman left a first floor flat before the Brigade arrived also uninjured.

Part of the ground floor shop was damaged by the blaze.

The Brigade was called at 1944 and the fire was under control by 2050. Fire crews from Hornsey, Edmonton and Southgate fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation
