Omonia Under 13 Green at Wembley
Nick Lingis and Mario Christoforou organised a trip for their Under 13 Green to go to Wembley and watch Tottenham’s FA Cup replay against Rochdale. A great evening was had by all as they saw plenty of goals and plenty of action.
Unfortunately the snow and resultant weather issues cancelled many grassroots football matches last week. For community football club Omonia Youth FC, sponsored by P&M Construction UK Ltd, only two competitive sides were able to fulfill their fixtures.
Nick Zimaras’ Under 18 White left themselves too much to do after going 3-0 down in firsthalf. Very poor defending for all three goals meant they had a mountain a climb but the boys gave it their best effort. The Under 18 White completely dominated the second half, playing almost the entire remainder of the game in the opposition’s half. Despite an absolute screamer of a goal from Charlie and another from Joe pulling two goals back, the boys left themselves too much to do. Manager Nick could not fault the commitment of the players and the team needs to win their next two games to qualify for semi-finals. Man of the Match was Toye on his return after sic weeks out with a hamstring injury.
In the Mid Herts Premier League the Under 15 Green (above) kept their winning going with what was in the end a routine 2-0 win against a very well organised side. Despite three clear chances in the first half the Under 15 Green could not find that crucial goal to settle them and they went into the half time interval 0-0.
Patience however paid off and a much second half performance saw Under 15 Green having plenty of possession but lacking the cutting edge. With 15 minutes to go, a free kick delivered into the opposition box by Mikey Dionisiou to George Stasi was headed goalwards and was parried by the goalkeeper where Christos Pedrithes was on hand to tuck it away. This settled the team and with five minutes remaining Angelo Michael scored a second with a fine finish.
Man of the Match was Michael Kleopa who gave a commanding solid and composed centre half performance.
The coaching staff of the Under 15 Green wanted to thank all the managers and coaches of Omonia Youth who came and gave support as their matches were cancelled.
The club will be hosting their annual Dinner and Dance on 25th March at the Regency Banqueting Suite. A commemorative brochure will be published and if you would like to advertise in it, please get in contact with the club. Tickets for the evening and raffles are available from the club.
