Police have announced that a week-long speed enforcement operation, co-ordinated by TISPOL and supported across Europe, begins today.
The operation will be held throughout the free areas of the Republic and aims at preventing road accidents and involves both static speed detection and vehicles controlled by police officers.
The campaign is being held in cooperation with The European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL) and will end at 22 April.
According to a Police announcement, excessive speeding is among the four road killers and is the number one cause of road accidents in young people from 18-25.
