Gymnasium, lyceum and technical school pupils stayed out of the classroom for the third period today in protest over the newly-introduced school bus fares.
With protests expected to escalate, a group of pupils also clashed with the police outside the Technical School near the APOEL clubhouse in Nicosia after stones were thrown and two buses temporarily prevented from driving off. The incident occurred at around 11am, the police said.
The buses and the rest of the traffic moved on after the police intervened.
Pupils then allegedly started throwing stones at the police, bringing a larger police presence at the scene.
