The Saints took to the field last night against CB Hounslow knowing a point would secure the League title. We were treated to a terrific game and a quite jaw dropping display of passing football from St Panteleimon. Ayub Albadri opened the scoring on 22 minutes and the Saints had opportunities to extend this lead but for some terrific defending and goalkeeping from the visitors. A lapse in concentration from a set piece saw CB Hounslow equalise against the run of play and the half ended 1-1.
The second half was a treat for all football fans as the Saints settled back into the rhythm and increased the tempo. Ayub Albadri ended a beautiful passing move thundering a shot into the top corner of the net making it 2-1. Soon after, some terrific interplay and movement led to Ayub’s third goal to round off his hattrick and man of the match performance. Final score 3-1 to St Panteleimon and crowned Champions of the Middlesex County Premier League!
It is not often we are able to share a story so telling of courage, spirit and unity. One of sacrifice and ultimate glory.
St Panteleimon FC was formed 4 years ago whose proud roots stem from KOPA League. Who could have imagined that there first two years since joining the English National League System would see them become a multiple championship winning team! They are now unbeaten in league football for over two years and this represents the longest unbeaten run in Middlesex County League history.
Never before, and perhaps never again, has a new team entering the league remained unbeaten for over 2 years in the English National League System.
