Theresa Villiers reselected as her constituency’s Conservative Parliamentary candidate.

Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers has been reselected as the constituency’s Conservative Parliamentary candidate.

Following her reselection at a meeting of the Chipping Barnet Conservative Association on Thursday, Mrs Villiers said she was “delighted” to be contesting the seat for a third time.

The Secretary of State for Northern Ireland’s main opponent in the 2015 General Election will be Labour’s Amy Trevethan, who was selected on January 26.

Mrs Villiers, who increased her majority from 46 to 49 per cent when she beat Labour’s Damien Welfare in 2010, said: “I very much enjoy my busy programme of work and campaigning in Chipping Barnet on issues such as protecting our green spaces, backing our great schools and supporting local high streets and businesses.

“I am looking forward to the general election campaign and I’ll continue to work hard to seek to persuade residents to give me the chance of a third term in Parliament fighting for the interests of Chipping Barnet.”

At just 22, Ms Trevethan, who will also stand for Underhill in this year’s local election, will be among the youngest parliamentary candidates next year.

She said: “I’m proud to be standing for a Labour party that will reduce living costs, invest in jobs and the economy, reduce transport costs for Londoners, repeal the bedroom tax and repeal the Tories’ tax cut for millionaires.

“The Tories just don’t care about ordinary people and they don’t care about Chipping Barnet. That’s why the Tory council here has shipped jobs out of the area as part of the One Barnet programme of mass privatisation.”
