Three Cypriot companies apply for commercial flights licence

Three Cypriot companies have filed an application to obtain an Air Operator Certificate (AOC), Ministry of Transport Permanent Secretary Alecos Michaelides has told CNA.

The three companies come as a Cypriot owned company, Tus Airlines, received the necessary licence and is to begin its schedule in mid February.

“The DCA is examining another three applications submitted by three Cypriot companies to obtain an AOC,” Michaelides told CNA, without revealing the companies as the applications are being examined by the DCA which submits additional questions.

He explained that after receiving the AOC, these firms will apply to the Ministry’s Aviation Licensing Authority, chaired by Michelides to obtain a Commercial Aviation Licence.

Furthermore, Michelides said the Ministry is in consultation with foreign aviation companies that wish to begin scheduled flights to and from Cyprus.

“There are many requests which are under examination,” he said.
