Three dogs are dead in Limassol after a vicious attack, according to a complaint filed with Limassol Police.
The assailing dog, an unaccompanied Staffordshire bull terrier, attacked two Basset hounds while they were walking with their owner, a police sergeant. Both bassets were on leads, police said.
The bull terrier, described by the police as an aggressive breed, reportedly attacked the two dogs, while the police sergeant was trying to ward him off with an umbrella shaft.
When the bull terrier turned on the dog owner, the 49-year-old took a knife he had borrowed from another resident to defend himself, police said. The police sergeant was not injured according to the report.
The two bassets were taken to the vet, who determined they were both dead according to police.
The dog owner of the bull terrier said a family relative had left the gate open and his dog escaped. His dog had killed another dog previously. The man was charged by Yermasogeia police and was let go until further notice. Police are investigating the incident.
