Occupancy in public hospitals is at quite high levels, State Health Services Organisation Spokesman, Charalambos Charilaou, told CNA on Saturday.
Regarding deaths from Influenza A virus, he said that based on the available data, since the beginning of 2025 three deaths due to influenza A virus have been recorded.
“It is something we encounter every year. It is not something new and we expect it. Another 5 people are hospitalized in public hospitals intensive care units with influenza”, he pointed out.
Charilaou told CNA that the outbreak of seasonal viruses continues, and that as a result there is a large number of patients who visit the public hospitals’ Accident and Emergency Departments.
There, he added, all emergencies that require immediate treatment receive immediate medical attention.
He called upon the public to call their GP for cases that are not urgent, that is, for all incidents where a person’s life is not in danger or threatened, so as to avoid any inconvenience and congestion in the emergency rooms.
Regarding the occupancy in public hospitals, he said that “we have exceeded 90%” noting that the Organisation, has made adjustments as regards available beds so that it can respond adequately.
In order to address this extraordinary seasonal crisis, he said, cooperation among all health professionals and the private sector is required.
