Tough new anti-social behaviour powers in force in Tottenham

Tough new powers to drive out anti-social behaviour are being introduced in parts of South Tottenham, after local residents gave them the thumbs up.

Haringey Council ran a consultation from February to April to ask residents if they supported the introduction of a Public Spaces Protection Order to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area near the Wickes store in Seven Sisters Road.

The order will be introduced in a number of streets surrounding the store and will specifically ban:

  • Intimidating or obstructing others by congregating in groups of two or more
  • Drinking alcohol in the street
  • Approaching people for casual labour

Residents were also in favour of installing a gate in the alleyway between Roslyn Road and Southey Road, which has become a magnet for anti-social behaviour and dumped rubbish.

Cllr Eugene Ayisi, Haringey Council Cabinet Member for Communities, said:

“These new measures, which have been welcomed by local people, will go a long way towards making South Tottenham a cleaner and safer place to live, work and visit.

Thank you to residents who took the time to respond to the consultation and have their say on this issue.”
