Two elderly Americans were questioned by Polis police for alleged espionage after they were reportedly spotted flying a drone close to Pomos Army base on Tuesday evening.
Soldiers at Pomos Army base noticed two men moving suspiciously near the camp and immediately informed Polis police. The suspects, both 65 years old, were detained by the authorities for questioning.
A drone was found in their possession and was seized by Police for examination and evidence. A drone, is more formally known as an unmanned aerial vehicle. The aircraft can be remotely controlled. Drones can be used for aerial photography.
It is thought that one of the men is a permanent residence of Cyprus. Their property was also searched and several cameras and computers were taken by the authorities to be examined further.
It is thought that the two elderly men deny claims of espionage and state that they were simply enjoying the nature near their home and taking photos of the area.The pair have been released however the police are continuing to investigate the case.
