Two New Zealand-based Greek Cypriot siblings have achieved the highest honours in their chosen sports this month.

Christopher Hoy (9) and Josephine Hoy (7) are based in Auckland, New Zealand, and are the grandchildren of former Bounds Green residents and rag trade business owners Demetrios and Chrisoulla David, who now reside in Larnaca. DEmetrios David was also the Chairman of Omonia (London).

Christopher’s football team won the New Zealand Under 9 National Football Championships on Monday 2 October, after a 3 day tournament in which they defeated 23 other teams for the honour.

The team was representing Auckland football club Eastern Suburbs AFC, and also came out champions of the Auckland U9 League at the end of the NZ football season in September.

Just a week after the Nationals victory, Christopher’s sister, Josephine, was named New Zealand Irish Dance Champion (U7) on Friday 6 October after flying to Wellington to compete in this world qualifying event.

Irish Dancing is a highly technical discipline but Josephine achieved her title with a perfect score of 100 from all 3 international adjudicators who were judging the event.
