UK Cypriot Christina Ellinas through The Voice Battle Round

The Voice hopeful Christina Ellinas powered through the first Battle Round on Saturday after belting out a Demi Lovato hit.

The UK Cypriot former air hostess, originally from Huyton but now living in London, saw off tough competition from fellow powerhouse Nyema Kalfon.

27-year-old Christina, whose sister Maria Ellinas made it to the X Factor final in 2014, won the nod of her coach Will.i.am in Saturday’s episode, leaving Nyema out of the competition.

The pair were told to sing Demi’s hit Confident, but seemed to struggle to get to grips with the song in the auditions. But after a strong showing on the night, Will said: “This is hard, this is a hard one. My choice is Christina.”

Despite Tom Jones and Olly Murs having the choice to steal Nymeh to their teams, they chose to give the option a miss and she left the competition.

Speaking ahead of the performance, Christina said: “I have given up so much to do this, I have worked so hard and I am meant to be here.”

Bursting into tears after her win, Christina ran into the arms of her Yiayia. She said: “I don’t believe it, it feels like a dream.”
