UK Cypriot accused of falsely claiming a person living in Cyprus was behind wheel of car speeding

A UK Cypriot man has been accused of falsely claiming a person living in Cyprus was behind the wheel of a car speeding and jumping a red light on eight occasions.

Vasili Georgiou in Plymouth, received eight notices of intent to prosecute concerning recordings on mobile speed cameras, static speed cameras and a red light camera between August 2005 and June 2012.

The charges state that on each occasion he informed the Devon and Cornwall Safety Camera partnership a Stavros Georgiou, whose address is in Cyprus, was the driver of the vehicle.

It is alleged Vasili Georgiou knew this was false so the real driver would evade prosecution.

Plymouth Magistrates Court sent the case to the Crown Court where he will appear for a preliminary hearing on February 3.
