Warning over A1(M) scam after motorist targeted

Police are warning people to be on their guard following an incident in which a motorist was flagged down on the slip road leading from Welwyn on to the A1(M).

A male driver claimed his vehicle had broken down and he had run out of petrol and needed some money.

He offered his rings in exchange for money.

When the motorist refused to offer money, the male driver then started to wave down other vehicles.

Police are warning people that this is a scam being used in Hertfordshire and surrounding counties.

The male driver spole with a ‘European accent’, according to police.

Police state: “Please do not give money to this money making scam. If possible ring our police non-emergency number 101 and report this immediately, it might stop someone being duped.”
